Derek Christian Hammer Sr. April 09, 1965 - July 05, 2023
Derek Christian Hammer, Sr., 58, of Lexington passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.



A memorial service will be held Saturday July 22, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with family members speaking, and military honors to follow. Family will visit with family and friends follow the service. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/davidson.funeralhome



Derek was born on April 9, 1965, in Richmond, Virginia to William Hammer and Kathleen Shultz. He was a chief petty officer in the US Navy for 24 years. He enjoyed smoking meat/barbecuing, online gaming, and watching war movies. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Julie McGaha Hammer of the home; his sons, Derek Christian Hammer Jr, (Ashley) of Virginia, Dustin Hammer (Mikayla) of Louisiana; sister, Lori Alderman; granddaughter, Maisie Hammer and several special cousins.

Peggy Jean Canady February 04, 1935 - April 05, 2023
Peggy Jean Austin Canady, 88, of Lexington, passed at her home, Wednesday, July 5, 2023.



A funeral service will be held at 11am Saturday, July 8, 2023 in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, with Pastor Gerald Shean officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.



Family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm, Friday, July 7, 2023 at Davidson Funeral Home.



Mrs. Canady was born in Gaston County, North Carolina, to Charlie Rabb Austin and Cinnie Wages Austin. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed being with her family.



In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her spouse Willie Carroll Canady; her son, Robert Wayne Canady; brothers, William, Woodrow, Franklin, Robert and Fuller Austin. Sisters Eva Mae Glover, Estell Marie Robinson also preceded her in death.



Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Christopher (Christy) Canady of Archdale and Chuck Canady of Lexington; daughters Carly Gay (Ronnie) Engold of Randleman and Darla Fay (Joel) Campbell of Virginia, sister Bobbie Ruth Hill of Maryland; grandchildren, Jonathan Canady, Franklin Willard, Eric Willard, Dillon Canady, Stacey Willard, Amanda Fuller, Michael Paul Canady Jody Lee Canady and 3 great-grandchildren.

Robert Dawson Daniels September 16, 1936 - July 01, 2023
Mr. Robert “Bob” D. Daniels, Sr., 86, of 188 Hope Drive, Lexington, NC, passed away from this earthly life into the eternal presence of God whom he served for many years since being born again in August 1961. For 54 years, Bob was married to Katy (Chris) Harrell Daniels who preceded him in death (deceased November 23, 2012). Bob and Chris had two sons – Robert Jr. (wife Cynthia – deceased April 2017) of Welcome and Todd Brandon (deceased June 28, 1990). Bob was born on September 16, 1936, to Charlie A. and Leatha McDuffie Daniels in Greene County, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers – Haywood, Horace, Clifton, John, Franklin, Charles, Curtis, and David, and five sisters – Helen, Hilda, Hazel, Lucy, and Mayme. He is survived by one granddaughter, Michell Curtis. He has several nieces and nephews surviving him.

Bob graduated from Hookerton High School, in Greene County, NC in 1954. After graduation, he served eight years (1954-1962) in the US Air Force. Following Basic Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, his service included time in three major stateside units: 37th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Ethan Allen AFB, Winooski, Vermont; 482nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron and 4th Tactical Fighter Wing, both at Seymour Johnson AFB, Goldsboro, NC. His foreign duty was with the 314th Air Division, Osan AFB, Korea (1957-1958).

Bob was a born-again Christian since 1961. Led by God, he accepted an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force in 1962, to study at Piedmont Bible College (Currently Piedmont International University), in Winston-Salem, where he graduated in 1967 (Scholastic Achievement – Delta Epsilon Chi with a ThB Degree which was a five-year degree program in Theology). He continued his education at Guilford College, Greensboro, NC, and graduated in 1969 (BA Degree in History). He did graduate studies in History at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, Continuing his studies, he graduated from Piedmont Baptist College in 2003 (Summa Cum Laude – MA in Biblical Studies). Bob taught World History for eight years at PBC in an Adjunct Professor capacity.

Bob was employed by Wachovia Bank for thirty-six years (1962-1998). He worked in several areas of the bank, but primarily in the Operations Department until his retirement in September 1998 as a Vice President.

Bob served the Lord Jesus Christ in several local churches, variously, as a Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, and Christian School Board Committee as Treasurer. For many years, he has dedicated himself to the Lord in service to honor Him in whatever capacity he was chosen to serve. Bob loved his Lord and His Church and he served Him faithfully and consistently.

His funeral service will be held at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, 600 Reedy Creek Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC on July 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive family and friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Presiding over the service will be Pastor Ben Farrell. Military honors will be observed. Internment will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

Gloria June Brooks July 10, 1948 - July 03, 2023
Gloria June Whittington Brooks, 74, of Lexington, NC, died at her home July 3, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, Friday July 7, 2023, 2:00 pm, with Rev. David Kelley officiating. A burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Family will visit with family and friends Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home.

Gloria was born July 10, 1948, in Davidson County to W.B (June) and Myrtle Leonard Whittington. She was formally employed as a type-setter at the Lexington Dispatch and enjoyed cake decorating and her grandchildren. She was a member at Shiloh Methodist Church in Lexington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Dermont (Pete) Brooks; her son, Dane Brooks, brother, Craig Whittington, and granddaughter, Molleigh Dublin.

Left to cherish her memories is her daughter Amanda Dublin, of Lexington; sisters, Diana Barbee and Kim Myers (Mike), grandchildren; Addison Dublin and Grayson Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh Methodist Church and/or Hospice of Davidson County.

Marie Parks Norman August 31, 1922 - July 02, 2023
Marie Parks Norman, 100, of Lexington, passed away July 2, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.



A funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday at Bethany Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.



The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.



Mrs. Norman was born August 31, 1922, in Davidson County to Albert Rowe Parks, Sr. and Flata Yates Parks. She retired from Burlington Mills after 25 years of service. She loved the outdoors and helping her late husband, Glen Norman, with his watermelons and farming. Her brother, Albert Parks Jr; her sisters, Pauline Kinley and Geneva Miller; and her granddaughter-in-law, Gail Bridgeman, also preceded her in death.



Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Glenda Floyd and husband Bruce of Lexington, grandchildren, Donnie Bridgeman; her step-grandchildren, Amy Everhart, and Beth Davis; and her great grandchildren, Sara Everhart, Madelyn Davis, and Savannah Davis, and special friends the Gray family.

Buddy Clark Gentry November 15, 1937 - June 29, 2023
Buddy Clark Gentry, 85, passed away on June 29th, 2023, following a brief illness. Buddy was born on November 15th, 1937, in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Walter Clark Gentry II and Mary Blanche (Knouse) Gentry. Buddy enjoyed traveling with his wife Jan, hunting, and fishing with his sons, playing cards, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, dancing, music, dogs, boating, spending time with family, and most of all, joking around and telling stories.



Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and mother to his four children Betty Lou (Spainhour) Gentry, and his sister Jo Ann Mock. He is survived by his loving wife Janice Fletcher Gentry; his four children – LuAnn Gentry (Kathy), Clark Gentry (Becky), Randy Gentry (Kate), and Angie Tucker (Scott); his four grandchildren – Rachel Gentry (fiancé Griffin Tordella) and Alex Gentry (Clark’s children), Cameron Tucker (Angie’s son), and Margo Gentry (Randy’s daughter); and his nephew Bill Mock (Paula).



Buddy was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a Marine Expert Rifleman. He became a restaurateur, establishing Clarks BBQ in Kernersville, North Carolina in 1993. He was also a home builder, erecting and painting many houses in the surrounding counties. He was well known in his Davidson County community and was the president of the North Davidson Booster Club in the 1970’s-1980’s. He was the coach of the Junior League Baseball in the 1970’s, his team winning the state championship in 1975. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Arcadia T-ball League in the 1970’s. He also coached little league football at Arcadia School in the 1970’s. Buddy lived up to his name in all ways and accomplished what matters most in life: loving others and being loved.
