December 17, 1937 - June 29, 2023
Cozette Haywood Greene, 85, of Loving Hill Rd., Candor, died Thursday, June 29, 2023 at her residence. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 2, 2023 at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Burial will follow in the Candor Cemetery.



Born in Montgomery County on December 17, 1937, she was the daughter of Jonah and Mildred Mauldin Haywood. She had worked in the furniture manufacturing industry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Greene, a daughter, Sandrell Ashworth, and a sister, Shirley Dorsett.



Mrs. Greene is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Parsons of the home; brothers, Ernest Haywood (Rosa) and James Haywood, both of Troy; sister, Naomi Stutts (Herman) of Ellerbe; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Richard Dermont Musgrave Sr, 81, of Davidson County, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Rowan Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, July 1, 2023at 10:00 AM, at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with Steve Kiger officiating.

Richard was born on June 22, 1942, in Davidson County, to the late Paul and Lillie Hunt Musgrave. He was a supervisor at Lexington Furniture. Richard loved deer hunting and fishing and he always loved to watch a good western movie.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Lafata Musgrave, of the home; sons Richard Musgrave Jr. (Pam), and Barry Musgrave (Johnnie) and daughter, Kathy Musgrave (Jeff Young). Brother, Charlie Musgrave and sister, Clara Heath, grandchildren; Nick Musgrave (Brooke) and Joey (Kim) Musgrave, and 6 great grandchildren; Haylee, Trevor, Trey, Connor, Marissa, and Ellarie. And his feline fur-baby Scooterbug.

Rhonda Hughes Sturkie, 61, of Lexington passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM, at Cid Community Church with Rev. Doug Rowe officiating.

Rhonda was born on November 6, 1961, in Davidson County to Larry Gene Hughes and Elizabeth Yarbrough Pratt. She worked as a kitchen manager and associated with Cid Community Church. Rhonda was a selfless person, and she always put others before herself. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, but her family was most important and brought her so much happiness. Rhonda was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother and will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Tabitha Sturkie.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell Henry Sturkie, of the home; daughters, Kayce Sturkie (Jessica) of Winston-Salem, Stacey Sturkie Hicks (Myron), Tiffany Sturkie (Danielle), all of Lexington; three grandchildren, Kalob George, Andon Hynes, Emma Hynes; sisters, Darlene Beck (Buck), Susie Stanley (Eddie), all of Lexington, and Drema Hall, and several special nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Belva Cheatwood May 20, 1932 - June 26, 2023
Carolyn Cheatwood, 91, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023, at Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center in San Angelo, TX, surrounded by family.



Carolyn Belva was born to David and Magdalene Leonard on May 20, 1932, in Lexington, NC. Carolyn grew up in Lexington and graduated in 1950 from Welcome High School where she was involved in many activities including the Beta Club, 4-H Club, French Club, Dramatics Club, Glee Club, Secretary of Class, cheerleader, and assistant photographer. Following High School, she received a diploma from Draughon Business College in Winston Salem, NC in August 1951.



Carolyn loved to spend time at Myrtle Beach, SC where she and Charles Cheatwood met. They were married on November 6, 1954, in York, SC. Charles was in the United States Armed Forces, and they traveled many places finally settling at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX. Carolyn was the secretary for 31 years at St. Paul Presbyterian Church from 1968 - 2003. She loved all the people she came in contact with through her years at St. Paul. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh even in the later stages of Alzheimer’s. Over the years she had many interests including collecting seashells, crafting, reading, gardening, cooking, sewing, birdwatching and photography. Carolyn took some outstanding photographs of the waterlilies at the International Waterlily Park in San Angelo.



Carolyn was preceded in death by parents David and Magdalene Leonard, brother Gene Leonard. She is survived by her husband Charles Cheatwood; son Charles Cheatwood, Jr and wife Margaret, daughter Connie Dressler and her husband Lee; grandchildren David Cheatwood and significant other Kata; John Dressler and wife Caitlin; Bryan Dressler and significant other Veronica; sister Nancy Leonard; brother Phil Leonard and wife Kitty.

Obituary
Mrs. Ruth Adelaide Thompson Pinyan age 87 of Denton NC died June 17, 2023 at Randolph Hospice House.



A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday, July 9 at The Southern Theater, the temporary location of Siloam Methodist Church located at 18639 N C Hwy # 109, Denton. Rev. Scott Davis will officiate at the service.



Mrs. Pinyan was born October 12, 1935 in Guilford County to John Charles (J C or Jim) Thompson and Essie Mae Wrenn Thompson. She had worked in Quality Control at A J Schneierson Sons, Inc.in Siler City and P P G in Lexington. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Siloam Methodist Church. She was a member of Denton Lions Club and had been a volunteer with South Davidson Resource Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, the father of her children James Eugene Andrews, Sr. and her second husband James Stokes Pinyan. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd Thompson and Charles Thompson and an infant brother.



She is survived by her son, James Eugene Andrews, Jr and wife Marsha of Siler City; and Beverly Andrews Cunningham and husband Mike of Pinebluff; grandchildren Ryan Andrews and Halie Cuningham and 4 great grandchildren.

Jacquelyn Craver Maphis September 09, 1948 - June 26, 2023
Jackie Maphis, 74, of Lexington passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice in Lexington.

Jackie was born on September 9, 1948, in Davidson County to Daniel Fritz Craver and Mildred Mills Craver. She worked in customer service for BB&T and was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Jackie lived a life devoted to the Lord and was actively involved in serving Him through Lexington Community Church. She sang on the praise team for many years and loved her church family. She is living at home now with her Savior! She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Pam Everhart.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Sam Maphis, of the home; sons, Chad Walser (Carol), Bryan Walser, both of Lexington; sisters, Nell Carrick of Thomasville, Clara Leonard (Barry) and Sandy Hobbs (Dane), both of Lexington; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
