Joyce Snider Young May 27, 1932 - October 17, 2023
Joyce Snider Young, 91, of Lexington, passed away October 17, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.



A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Pastor Josh Rau and Rev. William Sowers officiating the service, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.



Joyce was born April 27, 1932, in Randolph County, to David Harrison Snider and Algene Robbins Snider. Joyce was a devoted member of the church and the church choir for many years, and women’s fellowship. She retired from Duracell USA. Her passion was her faith, church, family and especially her grandchildren. Joyce was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her husband, Joe Bill Young who died June 13, 2023, a son, Bob Young, brother, David Snider.



Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Lisa Younts and husband Doug, of Lexington, Son, Mark Young and wife Donna of Danville VA. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Megan Younts and Jacob Younts and wife Katelyn, both of Lexington: her sisters, Reva Young of Lexington, and Teresa Smith of Trinity.

Willard Michael McCroskey September 24, 1946 - October 15, 2023
Willard Michael McCroskey, Sr., 77, of Casper Lane in Lexington, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 at his home.



Mr. McCroskey was born September 24, 1946 in Virginia to Jerry Wayne McCroskey and Nora Wanda Jean Dye McCroskey. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, NASCAR, and wood working and also an avid knife collector. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dixie McCroskey, his parents and many brothers and sisters.



Surviving is a son Willard McCroskey Jr. (Magdalena) of Indiana; a daughter, Melissa “Missy” Haye (Tim) of Thomasville; three brothers, Larry McCroskey (Diane), Rodney McCroskey (Fay), and Marshall Mccroskey (Debbie), all of Virginia; three sisters, Shirley Shrader, Wanda Asbury (Herbert), and Elsie Hinegar (Wayne), all of Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Margaret McCroskey (Joewy) and Kyle Matthews McCroskey; and a sister-in-law Candy Jenkins (Donnie) of Pennsylvania, and many nieces ans nephews

Boyd Lee Berrier February 17, 1946 - October 15, 2023
Boyd Lee Berrier, born on February 17, 1946, to Grady Lee Berrier and Arlene Louya Berrier, passed away on October 15, 2023, in Davidson County, North Carolina.

Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Edna Sue Hedrick Berrier, their son, David Lee Berrier, and their daughter, Kristie Lee Motley. He is preceded in death by his sister, Willie Mae Rich.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and family with six cherished grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Boyd was a source of inspiration and guidance to his very special nephew, Brandon Bare, and niece, Brooklyn Hedrick.

Boyd dedicated his professional life to the service of his community, working as a plumber with the Davidson County School system. He was a member of the Cotton Grove Methodist Church, where his faith and kindness touched the lives of many.

A graveside service to celebrate Boyd's life will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with a visitation to follow. The date and time of these gatherings will be announced soon.

Boyd Berrier will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to his community, and his enduring faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

uanita Stokes Hughes January 30, 1944 - October 14, 2023
Juanita Lamar Stokes Hughes, 79, of Wilson Road in Linwood, passed away Saturday October 14, 2023 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.



A celebration of life will be held at a later date.



Mrs. Hughes was born January 30, 1944 to Grover Stokes and Mamie Stokes. She enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with her family. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Amy Johns, a grandson Jeremy Wolf, and several brothers and sisters.



Surviving is her husband Lloyd George Hughes, of the home; three sons; Dwayne Hughes (Jean) of Lexington, Christopher Hughes of Salisbury and Chuck Hughes of Arcadia; one brother, Rayburn Stokes (Bonnie) of Utah; 14 grandchildren, Meggan Hughes Medicine Lodge Ks, Austin and Mikenzie Hughes of Medicine Lodge KS, Monica Hughes of Wichita KS Natalie Hughes of Wichita KS, Corinne Westeman of Golden CO, Jordan Hughes of Lexington, Katie Shipton of Lexington, Caleb Shipton of Marth’s Vineyard MA, Maggie Hughes of Charlston SC, Michelle and Andy Kennedy of Kernersville, Scott Hughes of Lexington, Ty and Salena Drainer of Lexington, Michael Hendricks of Lexington, Zach and Virginia Wolf of Cary NC, and Daniel Johns of Randleman; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lena Mae Lanier Presnell October 29, 1936 - October 14, 2023

Lena Mae Presnell, 86, of Lexington, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 14, 2023, with her family by her side. A resident of Lexington her whole life, Lena Mae was born on October 29, 1936, to the late Robert and Margaret (Pressley) Lanier.

Lena Mae will be remembered for her hard-working, selfless, and giving spirit. Lena Mae was the manager of Lanier Meat Packing for 18 years. Outside of public work, you would always find her cooking or helping others in her community in any way possible. Lena Mae loved cooking with her Aunt Dot, playing softball, crafting, and spending time with her family. Since birth, she was a faithful member of Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church where she also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and role model to many throughout her life. Lena Mae was known for being outspoken in her convictions, but always combined her words with love, in hopes of helping those around her to be a better person.

Lena Mae is survived by her son, Charles “June” Presnell of Raleigh; daughter, Lisa Dawn Sizemore of Lexington; Son-in-law, Tommy Hedrick; her grandchildren, Dustin Sizemore (Heather), Alena Presnell, and Tori Hedrick; her 7 great-grandchildren, Aria, Silas, Saylor, Sawyer, Zion, Marlee, and Zaylee; her brother, Rick Lanier (Pat); and a host of extended family and friends.

Lena Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret Lanier; her loving husband of 64 years, Len; daughter, Deborah (Presnell) Hedrick; grandson, T.J. Hedrick; sisters, Shelby Perry, Beatrice Metcalf, and Dianne Lambert (Junior); and brothers, Carlton Lanier and Terry Lanier.

Shirley Mae Hill Ryder November 03, 1927 - October 13, 2023
Shirley Ryder, age 95 of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side. She was born on November 3, 1927, to her loving parents, John Lewis Hill, and Martha Scarberry Hill, in McDowell County, WV. Shirley was very dedicated to her career of 45 years at Lexington Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, retiring at the age of 85, and was of the Baptist faith, and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Odis Marvin Ryder, daughter Tracy Ryder, stepson, Robert Ryder, brother Andy Hill, wife Ruby, brother in-law Tommy Ryder, sister in-laws, Lucille Allen, Christine Rowe, Bernice Leonard.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Stutts and husband Paul of Lexington, N. C., 3 grandchildren: Jake Adkins (Emily), Jacob Stutts, Nicholas Stutts, 1 great-granddaughter, Sylvie, sister-in-laws, Juanita Yates, Hazel VunCannon.

A funeral service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with pastors, Danny VunCannon, and Doug Rowe officiating. A burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Lexington, N. C.

The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, prior to the service.

Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and fierce dedication, known as a warrior to her family, friends and community. She also loved sports, especially being a big Duke Basketball fan, and bowled for the Coble Dairy Bowl team. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
