Marie Simpson Penry December 31, 1938 - April 8, 2023
Marie Simpson Penry, 84, of Old Camp Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Saturday, April 08, 2023, at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11 at Central United Methodist Church where she was a member with Lay Speaker, Cathy Ward, and Rev. Scott Davis officiating. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Marie was born on December 31, 1938, in Rockingham County, the daughter of Edgar Simpson and Audrey Lee Barham Simpson. She graduated from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina, known today as UNC Greensboro. She spent her entire career of 32 years as a teacher with Denton High School and later South Davidson High School. As a teacher Marie taught many different classes but Science classes were her favorites. Marie loved gardening, flowers, going on beach trips, a vast knowledge of birds, and most importantly she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Simpson Hawkins.

She is survived by her husband, Albert “Al” Penry, Jr., of the home; sons, Robbie Lanier (Sherri) of Lexington and Mike Lanier (Tina); daughter, Laura Lanier Walton of Denton; 5 grandchildren, Jerry Lanier (Sarah), Matthew Lanier (Hannah Lee), Gavin Walton, Emerson Walton, and Jackson Walton; 1 great-grandchild, Oliver Reece Lanier; and a sister, Glennie Goins (Larry) of Madison.

Pansy Hill Perry June 07, 1940 - December 24, 2022
Pansy Hill Perry, 82, formerly of Greenbrier Dr., Denton, NC passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Hinkle Hospice House.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, Dec. 31, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Pastors, Ron, and Kelly Loflin. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens

Pansy was born June 7, 1940, in Davidson County to Lewis Wood Hill and Bessie Viola Hughes Hill. She had worked for Burlington Industries and had attended Lick Creek Baptist Church and Uwharrie Community Church and had been involved with Central United Methodist Women’s group fundraising. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Ray Perry, son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kelly Perry, and a sister, Martha Murray.

She is survived by, son, Johnny Perry (Linda) of Winston Salem; brothers, Donald Hill (Gail) of Lexington, Otis Hill (Hazel) of Lexington; sisters, Janice Moore of Thomasville, and Diane Cabe (Billy) of Thomasville; 2 grandchildren, Mandy Perry Cole (David) and Keith Perry; 2 great-grandchildren, Deacon Cole and Jayla Cole.

Elizabeth (Beth) Myers November 28, 1977 - December 23, 2022
Elizabeth (Beth) Myers, 45, of Lexington, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at Wake Forest Lexington Medical Center.



No formal services are planned at this time. The family will announce a celebration of life at a later date.



Ms. Myers was born November 28, 1977, in Davidson County, to Woodrow Daniel Myers and Sandra Light Myers. Beth loved horses from childhood and made equestrian education her career for many years. She lived in Yuma, Arizona for several years where she worked as a contractor for the U.S. Military. Beth was preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley Rhodes June 19, 1924 - December 24, 2022
Shirley Heitman Rhodes, 98, passed away peacefully at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, N.C., on December 24, 2022, surrounded by family.



Shirley was born June 19, 1924, in Lexington, the oldest daughter of the 11 children born to the late Raymond Lee Heitman Sr. and Bertha Shaw Heitman. She is survived by her son, Gary Rhodes (Scott) of Salisbury; and daughter, Teresa Young (David) of Lexington; and grandchildren, Todd Rhodes, Davey Rhodes, and Keegan McComb (Jason). She is also survived by her sister, Vernell Sutherland of Lexington; and brother, Rodney Heitman of Thomasville. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Thomas “Tommy” Rhodes; and her brothers, David “Dave” Heitman, W.F. “Pete” Heitman, Ira “Mart” Heitman, Vernon Heitman, James “Dick” Heitman, and Raymond “R.J.” Heitman Jr.; and by sisters, Margie Floyd, and Myrtle Everhart; and sister in-law, Doris Heitman.

Jean Beck Largen April 19, 1928 - December 25, 2022
Dora Jean Beck Largen (Nana) of Winston-Salem, age 94, died Sunday, December 25th, 2022, at Hinkle House, Lexington, NC. A graveside service will be held at Hebron United Church of Christ on Hebron Church Road, at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 30, 2022. Services conducted by Pastor Christopher Speaks, her grandson.



Dora was born to Irvin Lee Beck and Mabel Miller Beck on April 19, 1928, in Davidson County. She retired from Western Electric, is a graduate of Midway School, and is a member of Hebron United Church of Christ. She loved camping and fishing at Myrtle Beach State Park and traveling to many places with her family.



She was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers, Paul and Howard Beck, Sister, Mildred B. Johnson, Grandson, Brian Speaks, and a Special Sister-in-law, Violet K. Beck. She is survived by her loving children, Bonnie Snyder (Steve), Debbie Davis (Mike), and Freddie Largen (Debbie), all of Midway; grandsons, Jeffrey Snyder (Paul) of Davis, NC, Christopher Speaks (Hannah) of Greensboro; great-granddaughters, Amelia and Mabel Speaks; Brothers, Charles Beck (Jo) of Clermont, FL, and Wayne Beck of Midway, and many nieces and nephews. Also, Vivian Livengood, a special neighbor who was like a daughter.

John Cleveland Everhart June 14, 1946 - December 24, 2022
John Everhart, 76, of Davidson County, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, at his son’s home.

Services will be held at a later date.

John was born on June 14, 1946, in Davidson County to Mr. Woodrow Everhart and Mrs. Eula Richardson Everhart. He worked many years as a truck driver, retiring from Roadway. John was proud to serve his country in the Army and was a former Commander in the American Legion. Some of his hobbies included collecting, fishing, and camping. But most of all, he loved to garden, and had a special talent for growing tomatoes. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Meredith.

Loretta Bach October 10, 1930 - December 23, 2022
Loretta Mae Bridgeman Bach, a resident of Lexington went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 23, 2022 at her residence. She was born on October 10, 1930 to the late John Morgan and Rissie Hall Bridgeman. Loretta taught at Welcome Elementary and North Davidson Middle School until her retirement. She loved her students and was an excellent teacher. She enjoyed gardening, and planting flowers all around her home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Paul Bach; a son-in-law, Larry Wayne Garrison, Sr.; brother, Charles Vernon Bridgeman; a sister, Edith Craven and a baby sister, Marie Bridgeman.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00PM. Interment will immediately follow the service in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
