Marshall Allen McLamb June 18, 1929 - October 30, 2023 |
Marshall Allen McLamb, 94, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully at his home on October 30, 2023.
Marshall loved and cherished his family, friends, and community. The saying, “he never met a stranger” was evident as his friends and relationships crossed boundaries and all walks of life. He lived his faith and convictions and positively impacted many throughout his lifetime. He will be greatly missed.
Marshall was born in Coats, NC to Dewey and Ethel McLamb. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters and brothers Naomi McAllister, Mae Smythe, Dewey McLamb Jr., Olman McLamb, and Kenneth McLamb; daughter Luanne McLamb; and son-in-law Kevin Beauchamp. Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his children Jan McLamb (Harry Mock), Julie Beauchamp, and Jon McLamb (Kerri); grandchildren Jennifer Alcon (Cory), Parker Beauchamp, Lawson McLamb and Layton McLamb; great-grandchildren Brooks Marshall Alcon and Henry Aaron Alcon; brother Floyd McLamb, very special long-time friend, Margaret Browning; and sisters-in-law Elsie McLamb, Evelyn McLamb, and Glenda McLamb.
He was a graduate of Coats High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard prior to earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Carolina University. While attending ECU, he began as well as ran a pick-up and delivery dry-cleaning service plus a newspaper route in order to help pay for college. He began his career as a high school teacher and basketball coach at Everglades City High School in Florida and Erwin High School in Harnett County, NC before becoming a teacher and administrator at Northwest High School in Winston-Salem, NC. His love for sports also led him to be a high school football and basketball referee for several years. Following his teaching and coaching years, he became a supervisor at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company before running Mack’s Men’s Wear, a men’s clothing store in Midway, NC for over 25 years.
Marshall actively supported his community and Midway and North Davidson athletic programs throughout the years. He was a faithful member of Midway United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he taught Sunday School and served in numerous leadership positions. His love of farming, gardening, raising cattle, hunting, and fishing created a lifetime of memories, and he often enjoyed sharing the bounty from his garden with his community.
