John Marshall Thompson, Sr. March 25, 1926 - September 16, 2023
John Marshall Thompson, Sr., 97 of Privette Rd, Candor, died Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Candor Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Steve Jarman officiating. Burial will follow in the Candor Cemetery with masonic rites.



Born in Richmond County on March 25, 1926, he was the son of Henry Heyward and Ida Roberts Thompson. He was first a farmer, and a longtime employee with the Town of Candor with over 55 years of service. John was a member of Biscoe Masonic Lodge AFAM #437. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Field Thompson in 2018, and his son, John Marshall “Bunky” Thompson, Jr. in 2001.



John is survived by 2 grandsons, Jonathan “J.T.” Thompson (fiancée Charlzie Bramblett) of Candor and Jordan Thompson (Courtney) of Raleigh; great granddaughters, Evie and Isabel Thompson; many nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM prior to the service Tuesday at Candor Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Candor Baptist Church, PO Box 614, Candor NC 27229 or to the Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437, PO Box 975, Biscoe NC 27209.



Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
