A funeral service will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial will directly follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 14 at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Born June 21, 1942, in High Point, N.C., Bud’s parents were Mildred Welch Byrd and Marion Laven Byrd, Sr.

Bud joined the army in 1962 and was a helicopter gunman in the Vietnam war, receiving a Marksman medal, Expeditionary Service medal and Air Medal in 1964. The Air Medal is awarded for exemplary achievement while serving with the Armed Forces in aerial flight.

In 1975, Bud began his career with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a Major in 2000. He was very proud of his work with the department and the impact he made in the community, which led to multiple recognitions during his career.

After retirement, he continued working in law enforcement with counterfeit crimes. This allowed him to continue to work side by side with local law enforcement in the area.

He enjoyed living on High Rock Lake and taking his family on pontoon boat rides. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and shooting. After retirement, his hobbies included daily trips for Black Chicken coffee and catching up with friends at local restaurants. He was a very proud Papaw to Kaleb and Jenna, celebrating every accomplishment as they grew up.
Bud was a devoted husband of nearly 50 years to his late wife, Carol Schricker Byrd.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Allison Byrd Robinson and husband, James; and his grandchildren, Kaleb James Robinson and Jenna Paige Robinson.
