Roy Whitmire March 29, 1941 - July 22, 2023
Roy Eldon Whitmire, 82, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home.

Mr. Whitmire was born March 29, 1941, to Fred and Rollie May Whitmire in Lauratown, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his siblings, as well as his daughter, Wendy Mechelle Hodges.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023 at the home, 2686 Riverview Rd Lexington, NC with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro, NC.

He served in the United States Army for 2 years. After his discharge he worked in the steel industry for over 35 years, employed by both Edgecomb Metals and O’Neal Steel. Roy was a lover of bluegrass and country music, NASCAR, and Duke basketball. He loved his family and loved spending time with them and had many friends to whom he was known as loyal and selfless.

Roy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Fields Whitmire; his son, Jonathan Whitmire (Skylar); grandchildren Nicky Sigmon (Gary), Ryan Hodges (Priscilla), Ashley Hodges (Christian), Emma Whitmire, Tyler Whitmire, and Jackson Whitmire; great-grandchildren Caila Sigmon, Devin Sigmon, Mason Sigmon, Waylon Hodges, and Layla Sanchez, and one great-great-grandson River Dykes.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Roy’s caregiver of over two years, Kristin O’Leary.
