A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at Bethesda United Methodist Church, by Revs. Janet Dixon and Darren Everhart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Family Life Center.

Mrs. Shoaf was born November 3, 1929, in Davidson County to Arlie Luther Essick Sr and Girla Lily Kinney Essick. She retired from Western Electric. She was a lifelong member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and The Methodist Women. She directed the children’s choir and served as a children’s Sunday School teacher. She loved her church and faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her immediate family and “The Cake Lady” to her church family.

On May 7, 1949, Mrs. Shoaf was married to Glen Roscoe Shoaf who preceded her in death on February 3, 2018. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Glen David Shoaf in 2021, three sisters, Agnes Adkins, Arwilda Everhart, and Mintie Everhart, and four brothers, Arlie (A.L.) Jr, Winfred, Rueben, Ralph, and Bill Essick.
Mrs. Shoaf is survived by her daughter, Myra Spach (Mick), the daughter in-law, Barbara Shoaf, her two grandchildren; Patrick Spach and Leslie Shoaf; three great-grandchildren; Cooper Spach, Nora Schmid and Lisette Spach and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Beth Keaton (her longtime caregiver), Mallard Ridge Assisted Living, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (7th Floor North Tower CVICU and Ardmore East 10th Floor) and Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home for their excellent support and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethesda United Methodist Music Fund, 2922 Bethesda Road, Lexington, NC 27295 or Meals On Wheels of Davidson County, 555-B West Center Street Ext, Lexington, NC 27295.
