Ronald Gene Smith April 13, 1954 - October 20, 2023
Dr. Ronald Smith, age 69 of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at K B Reynolds Hospice Care. He passed away after an extended illness, including Parkinsons disease.



A funeral will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Cletis Titus officiating. A burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.



The family will receive friends from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, at Grace Baptist Church prior to the service.



Dr. Smith was born in Huntington, WV. April 13, 1954, in Cabell County to Robert Gene Smith and Carolyn Eaton Smith of Chesapeake, OH. He graduated from Chesapeake High School and was on the golf team and in band. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall University and a Master of Music degree from Ithaca College. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance from Louisiana State University.



Ron started a band at Huntington Christian Academy in West Virginia, served the Lord at Pensacola Christian College in Florida for 26 years as a music professor, choir and orchestra director, and music department chairman. Ron moved to Winston-Salem in 2006 and worked at Piedmont Baptist College as music department chairman, advisor to student teachers, and Dean of Arts and Sciences until his retirement in 2020. Ron also served as a choir and orchestra director at Campus Church in Pensacola, and as Orchestra Director at Grace Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and participated in many community bands and orchestras, most recently in Salem band. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his loving wife; Alice Jane Gardner Smith of 44 years, sons, Ryan Smith (Amy) of Michigan, Jason Smith (Jill) of Missouri, Jeremy Smith (Kylee) of Ohio, brother John Smith (Susan) also of Ohio, 12 grandchildren; Wes, Louisa, Jayden, Zoie, Landen, Trenten, Mezlie, Kinslie, Sophie, Braxten, Bennett, and Reggie.



Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peter’s Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.



Davidson Funeral Home of Winston-Salem are assisting the Smith family.
