Casper Reid Essick June 25, 1943 - August 29, 2023
Casper Reid Essick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a pillar of his community, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at his home, surrounded by the warm embrace of his loving family.

A celebration of Casper's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 4 PM in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Sanctuary, the very place that had been a cornerstone of his spiritual journey. Reverend Dennis Marshall will lead the service, guiding family and friends in honoring a life well-lived. Following the service, Casper will be laid to rest in the Church Cemetery, a final resting place in the heart of the community he cherished. The family will receive friends from 3 pm until 4 pm in the Family Life Center.

The legacy of Casper's life is imprinted with moments of love, passion, and dedication. Affectionately known as Cap’n by many who knew him, he was born on June 25, 1943, in Welcome, North Carolina to Fred Lee and Zella Hinkle Essick, Casper grew up with a deep sense of community and family values. He remained a devoted member of Bethesda UMC throughout his life, finding strength and solace in his faith. His participation in the co-ed Sunday school class was a testament to his commitment to both his spiritual growth and his connections with fellow congregants.
Casper's educational journey took him through North Davidson High School, where he graduated as part of the class of 1961. He further pursued higher education at NC State, fostering a passion for learning and personal growth. He was not only a scholar but also an enthusiast of sports, particularly in his unwavering support for NC State and North Davidson teams. His love for fishing and golf added a sense of adventure to his life, a zest he eagerly shared with his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred L. and Zella H. Essick, his brothers Colin Essick, Joe Essick, Holland Essick, and Ellis Lee Essick, and his sisters Ruth Sink, Willie Medlin, and Devara Everhart.

Above all else, Casper's heart was devoted to his family. His marriage to his loving wife, Becky Freeman Essick, lasted for 55 beautiful years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a loving family with their four children: Jonathan Essick, Brian Essick, Amy E Dally, and Jane E Dennis. Casper found immense pride and joy in his role as a father, and his six grandchildren—Sarah L Essick, Matthew R Essick, Erin L Dennis, Morgan J Dennis, Cayden S Dally, and Kara K Dally—were the apple of his eye. His unwavering support was evident as he attended every event and cheered on his children and grandchildren in all their pursuits, be it music, sports, or academics. He was also survived by his sisters, Alma Lou Craver and Peggy Griffie; and a host of nieces and nephews
The legacy of Casper's competitive spirit and dedication extended to his hobbies as well. From fishing expeditions along Davidson County's creek banks to golfing adventures with his brothers, sons, and friends, he left an indelible mark as a mentor. His love for sports found a unique outlet in American Six Wicket croquet, where he formed lifelong friendships and shared countless joyous moments with his wife, Becky.

Retirement brought new avenues of connection and camaraderie. Casper's mornings were brightened at Randy's Restaurant in Welcome, where he engaged in spirited discussions about sports and politics with his dear friends. His engaging personality and warm smile lit up the room, creating a space where cherished memories were shared.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Dugan and his dedicated team, along with the compassionate caregivers of Novant Forsyth's 9 West, for providing comfort and support during Casper's last months.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the Disaffiliation Fund for Bethesda (2922 Bethesda Rd., Lexington, NC 27295) or the American Red Cross (650 Coliseum Dr., Winston Salem).

Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington is honored to be serving the Essick Family. As we gather to celebrate Casper's life, let us remember the legacy of love, dedication, and joy he leaves behind. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.
