Judith
Mrs. Judith “Judy Bug” Gail Brogdon McDowell, 82, of Hulin McDowell Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at her residence.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, Aug. 25 at Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery with Rev. Steven Nance officiating.

Mrs. McDowell was born on October 5, 1940, in Davidson County to Bradley Brogdon and Gerturde Childress Brogdon. She was a member of Pleasant Union Community Church and had worked in the furniture industry. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, David Brogdon, sisters, Ann Sechrest and Betsy Higgins, and a step-granddaughter, Roxanne Michelle Cromer.

She is survived by her husband, Donald “Duck” McDowell of the home; son, Scott McDowell, and wife Kellie Jo, of Denton; 2 step-grandchildren, Brian Allen Anderson and Curtis Max Anderson; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

Linda McMillen Wilt May 23, 1952 - August 21, 2023
We are sad to announce the passing of Linda McMillen Wilt, 71, of Eagle Springs, on Monday, August 21, 2023 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst, from cancer. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Smith Cemetery.



Born in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of Winfred Senter and Vivian Shields McMillen. She worked in education.

Marilyn Taylor April 13, 1932 - August 21, 2023
Marilyn Simmons Taylor, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 91. Her remarkable journey through life was marked by devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to her faith.



A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 4 pm, at Churchland Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Huckaby officiating, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory. Following the service, the family will receive friends, coming together to share stories and find comfort in each other's presence.



Born in Gastonia, NC on April 13, 1932, Marilyn was the daughter of Joe and Mollie Henderson Simmons. She grew up in a warm and nurturing environment, which instilled in her the values of kindness, compassion, and determination. Her journey through life was characterized by her strong sense of purpose and the love she shared with everyone she encountered. Marilyn's professional career saw her working as an operator for Southern Bell, where her commitment to excellence and dedication earned her the respect of colleagues and peers. Her warm demeanor and willingness to assist others made her not just an employee, but a friend to those she worked with. In matters of faith, Marilyn found solace and community at Churchland Baptist Church, where her devotion to God was unwavering. Her involvement in the church allowed her to forge lasting relationships and share her kindness with those in need. She not only attended services but also actively participated in various church activities, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her fellow congregants. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Collier.

Ethel Swinson Orrell April 02, 1926 - August 22, 2023
Ethel Swinson Orrell, 97, of Linwood, passed away Tuesday August 22, 2023, at Rowan Medical Center.

Funeral Arrangements will be announced.

Mrs. Orrell was born April 2, 1926 in Stanly County to Lee Roy Swinson and Gordia Elizabeth Johnson Swinson. She was the oldest member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the Church Choir in to her nineties. She loved gardening and following the Atlanta Braves. Her beloved husband, Howard Orrell, her brother, Roy Swinson; her sisters, Eleanor Sifford, Billie Barbee, Beulah Mae Stallings, Pete Nance, and Betty Hill; and her grandson, Nick Orrell, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Orrell Jones and husband, Johnny; her sons, Jerry Orrell and wife, Gaye, and Tim Orrell and wife, Lisa; her brother, J.L. “Duby” Swinson and wife, Katrina, of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Todd Orrell and partner, Teresa, Brian Orrell and wife, Wendy, Stephanie Garrett and husband, Scott, Jessica Smith and husband, Bobby, and Shannon Herrin and husband, Tony; her step-granchildren, Lauren Macias and husband, Hector and Alex Iseman, and wife, Rachel; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Allen Lee Blanton December 15, 1950 - August 20, 2023
Allen “Buck” Lee Blanton, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on December 15, 1950, in Hanover County to the late Coleman Levi and Bessie Crocker Blanton. Buck’s journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and a deep connection to family.

Buck was a man of many talents and passions. He found his calling as the owner and operator of Allen L. Blanton Painting, where he poured his heart and soul into creating beautiful spaces for others. His skilled hands left a lasting mark on countless homes and businesses in the community.

Outside of work, Buck enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He had a fascination for uncovering hidden treasures with his metal detector, a hobby that spoke to his curiosity and appreciation for life’s mysteries. He found comfort in watching football, cheering for his favorite teams, and relishing in the camaraderie of the sport. His soul was soothed by the melodies of Country music.

Buck’s love story with his wife, Gina Stewart Blanton, was one of unwavering devotion. Their bond served as a testament to the power of a deep, enduring love that weathered life’s challenges and brought them closer together,

Family was the heart of Buck’s world. His sister, Connie R. Woodcock, shared a special connection that was nurtured by shared memories and a lifetime of experiences. Buck’s legacy extended to the next generation through his role as a godfather to Jaime Caitlyn Kelley, Sara Gunter, and Sienna Cheek. He found joy in guiding and supporting them, leaving an imprint on their lives that will be cherished forever.

Buck’s nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart. Crystal Blanton, Coleman (Anthony) Blanton, Eddie Hackett, Donna Boles Cheek, and many others shared in his love and laughter. His presence was a gift that enriched their lives in countless ways.

As Buck joins his late brothers, James Hewett Blanton, Coleman Franklin Blanton, and Gary Sylvester Blanton, in eternal rest, his memory lives through the stories and memories shared by those who loved him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and a deep love for family and friends will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 2:30 pm with a visitation of friends prior to the service from 1-2 pm at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made in Buck’s name to the charity of your choice. Let us celebrate the life of Allen “Buck” Lee Blanton, a remarkable individual who left a permanent mark on all he touched.

Frances Rich Hoover December 14, 1926 - August 20, 2023
Mary “Frances” Rich Hoover, 96 of Lexington, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Davidson Health and Rehab in Lexington.



A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, August 24th at First Baptist Church in Lexington with The Rev. Dr. Ray Howell III and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery.



A visitation with family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 7pm until 8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home of the daughter on Park Lane in Lexington.



Frances was born to James Madison Rich and Bertha Mae Whittemore Rich Jackson on December 14, 1926, in Randolph County, NC. She retired as office manager from Vorhees & Conner architectural firm and was a member of First Baptist Church on West Third Avenue. Over the years, Frances taught Sunday school, served on the Bereavement Committee, coordinated meals for deceased church members, and was one of the church’s first female deacons in 1995. She was a member of the High Point Women’s Club but moved her membership to the Lexington Woman’s Club where she served for 60 years in different offices including past president. Frances was also elected to the Women of Achievement for her many years of service with the club. Frances was instrumental in having a playground installed for handicapped children at South Lexington Elementary School. Frances also enjoyed playing a game of golf. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold Wayne Hoover, Sr., and sister Mack Cunningham.

Chandica
Chandica “Davo” Jailall, 65, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM, August 24, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service.

Chandica was born on May 21, 1958, in Guyana to Jailall Narin and Gangamah Vellian.

He worked for Parkdale and retired after a number of years. Chandica was known to be a “Jack of all trades” and enjoyed working with his hands. He was a carpenter, mechanic, mason, and fisherman. However, his greatest pride was in his family. He was a very devoted husband and father and loved his parents, brothers, and sisters. Chandica valued every day and every person in his life. Gift giving was one of his love languages and each gift he gave was given from the heart.

Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Doris Permaul and his father-in-law, Victor Permaul.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Selena Permaul Jailall, of the home; son, Rudy Jailall of Lexington; daughters, Savita Jailall of Greensboro and Sabrina Jailall of Greensboro; brothers, Jimmy and wife Zooreena Franklin of Salisbury, Premo Jailall and wife Nita of GA, and Ram “Brother” and wife Nadia Narine of GA; sisters, Eileen Jailall and husband Krishna Karaya of GA, and Dataline and husband Sookram Singh of GA; stepsister, Margaret Muhammed of Archdale; brother-in-law, Raymond and wife, Sumattia Permaul; sisters-in-law, Virginia and husband Bako Balkaran, and Marline Permaul; uncles, Seeram Tangalan, Daniel Ragwan, and Hanoman Vellian; aunt, Dato Singh; Davo’s cousins, Vernon Tangalan, Raymond Tangalan, Gopaul Tangalan, Radesh Ragwan, Devi Ragwan, Ramesh Tangalan, Sudesh Ragwan, Narendra Singh, Mohan Tangalan, Dodnauth Singh, Veronica Vellian; nieces and nephews, Leon Ackiam, Ryam Ackiam, Rocky Razak, Vicky Permaul and husband Late, Bryan Jailall, Jasmine Jailall, Shevanie Singh, Michael Narine, Tina Jailall, Sean Singh, Vanessa Narine, Natasha Narine, Boyz Balkaran, Tara Neura, Vish Balkaran, Vick Balkaran, Mona Permaul, Richie Permaul, Meline Permaul, Bryan Permaul, Sunita, and Benita; grandnephews, Justin Neura, Nick Neura, and multiple other grandnephews and grandnieces; many more extended family; and beloved fur-baby, Nala.
