Cora Maxine Berrier March 09, 1929 - April 24, 2022 |
Cora “Maxine” Hinkle Berrier, 93, of Welcome, North Carolina was called home to our Savior on Sunday, April 24th 2022, at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Maxine was born March 9th, 1929 to the late John and Della Hinkle of Welcome, NC. Maxine was preceded in death by her siblings, Catherine Hinkle and three brothers, Eugene (twin brother), Charles and Preston Hinkle. Recently, Maxine was also preceded by her son, Robert “Craig” Berrier, of Lexington, NC whom she cherished. While our hearts are sad that we will no longer have her fellowship here on Earth, we rest in knowing that Maxine lived a very full life that she was proud of sharing with others.
Maxine is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Robert “Bob” Berrier, of seventy-three years, daughter-in-law, Jeannie Berrier, three grandchildren Robert “Brent” Berrier (Misty), Michael Varner (Beth), Michelle Evans (Todd), and seven great grandchildren, Montanna Berrier, Chezney Norman, Brielyn Berrier, Chad Evans (Savannah), Ashley Anderson (Ben), Landon Varner, and Hadley Varner. In addition, Maxine had two great-great grandchildren, Bennett and Brittly Anderson. Maxine was better known to the above as “Mamaw”.
Maxine was the first class to go twelve years of grade school and graduated from Welcome High School. Maxine was a strong-willed, determined woman, and hard worker at Erlanger Mill. At this job she met her soulmate, Bob. They dated one year and were married at her mother’s home on October 15th, 1949 by Henry L. Reese. Their love was one-of-a-kind and continued to grow stronger each year. One year later, the couple welcomed their only son, Craig, who became the light of their lives.

In 1960, the couple built their own home where family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome and visited frequently. Their porch was a gathering place where many were invited in to sit down, rest, have a cold soda, and conversate sometimes for hours. Maxine had a beautiful soul and knew no stranger. Her friends and family would describe her as vibrant and spunky. She had a way of putting a smile on anyone’s face, gave to others in times of need, and offered advice even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Often, the advice was what you needed to hear.
Early in their marriage, Bob and Maxine enjoyed frequent beach trips and anniversary getaways. They both were active members of the Moose Lodge for twenty plus years where they fostered many friendships and always danced to their favorite song “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. Maxine had a green thumb and raised beautiful flowers for years. She loved riding on the pontoon with Bob and entertaining family and friends at the lake. Often, Maxine visited the local nursing homes and always took them a “little token gift” to cheer them up. She had many friends and acquaintances for years and never forgot a name or relationship.
To know Mamaw was to love her. She was cherished over her lifetime by many wonderful friends and family that will continue to share her stories and hold her in their hearts forever. Maxine’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at High Rock Church Of Lexington on May 17th at 7pm. The Berrier Family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ted Nifong for the many years of care & our Davidson County Hospice Nurses, Valley & Kim who assisted in keeping Mamaw at home to pass with her family at her bedside as was her desire.
