Theodore Elliott Motlow, Jr.

May 19, 1931 - May 05, 2022

Theodore ("Ted") Elliott Motlow, Jr. died in the early morning hours on May 5, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, NC after an extended illness. He was 90 years old.

Preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Elliott Motlow, Sr. (Aberdeen, Mississippi) and Jewel Nelson Motlow (Key West, Florida), Ted is survived by the mother of his children, Jane Gordon Shoaf Motlow (Lexington, NC); his three children, Theodore Elliott Motlow, III (Holly), Richard Mark Motlow (Connie), and Melody Motlow Williams (Alan); his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Motlow was born May 19, 1931 in Miami, Florida. He graduated from Baylor Military Academy, followed by attendance at Duke University on a football scholarship. He spent most of his business life involved in sales and merchandising throughout California, Florida, and the Carolinas. As a young adult, Ted was baptized and confirmed in the Baptist church.

Commissioned as an Army officer, Ted served as an aeronautical engineer and helicopter pilot. In the late 1950's, he was stationed in Iceland on a surveillance mission. In the early years of our war in Vietnam, Ted was sent as a military advisor, and operational pilot, where he was awarded the Bronze Star following his daring river rescue of stranded ground soldiers in Vietnam. After seven years of active service, he was honorably discharged February 1, 1963.
Like his father before him, Ted was a lifelong avid outdoorsman. He immensely enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. His family will certainly miss Ted's animated storytelling and great sense of humor.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
